Our teams have designed these waterproof overtrousers to protect you from a light shower during occasional hikes in the plains.Slip these hiking overtrousers into the bottom of your bag for full protection in the event of a downpour. This waterproof and breathable product is compact and can be stored in its zip pocket
Waterproofing of the component of these overtrousers
The waterproofing of a fabric by a coating or a membrane is measured in Schmerbers or H20 mm (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric.
These overtrousers are designed with a coated waterproof component (JIS 1092 standard): this component withstands 5000 mm H20 (Schmerber) before washing (i.e. the pressure exerted by a 5-metre water column).
Waterproofing of these overtrousers
The waterproof properties of the overtrousers aren’t just limited to their components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion.
Sewn then sealed, the overall waterproof properties of your overtrousers are measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon that simulates rain of varying intensity.
As such, these Raincut waterproof overtrousers protect you from a light shower, i.e. 6 cm of rain in 1 hour.
Water repellent without PFC
The fabric of these overtrousers has water-repellent properties: it lets water slide over its surface without seeping in. In this way, the fabric doesn’t soak up water and stays lightweight and breathable.
The water-repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior: it doesn’t use fluorinated compounds which have a harmful impact on fauna and flora.
Durability of the performance of the overtrousers in the rain
To maintain a water-repellent fabric, we recommend reactivating it regularly.
You can do this every three washes (it’s important to rinse abundantly) or after a dozen uses in the rain.
You can easily reactivate the water repellent property by warming the fabric:
– in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic programme)
– with a hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm by going back and forth twice
– or two passes with an iron on the delicate setting without the steam function.
Fabric breathability
The fabric of these overtrousers is breathable: RET = 12.Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET).
This is its capacity to let water vapour generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin.
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.
RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric
RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: little or no breathability
Choosing your waterproof overtrousers according to your level of physical effort
This product is designed for hikes lasting several hours while walking at a pace of no more than 5km/h.
During sports activity, the extent to which we perspire depends on the intensity or the duration of the physical effort If the fabric’s breathability isn’t suited to the type of activity/exercise your perspiration will condense inside jacket. You will feel damp inside this is not rain coming through but perspiration vapour condensing You need to choose over-trousers in line with your activity type.
